Spirit Stories: In Your Own Words

By: Naomi Raison

Often have people come to watch TV with my old boyfriend and my Dad. They drop in every now and then, especially if my house is quiet. My old boyfriend jokes that I have to move things off the lounge chair so he can sit down. But the strongest sensation of my Dad being with me happened about five years after he died.

I had driven to town early to be ready to play hockey one Saturday afternoon. When I parked my car near the main street I realized that there was some sort of parade on so I walked up the street to be able to stand on the corner near the library so I could watch the parade. It was a re-enactment of a famous painting about how in the early days in the bush big drays were used to cart huge bales of wool over the black soil plains to market. And as I was standing there in the middle of a crowd of people on a bright sunny day I started to cry because I had a strong impression of my father standing beside me, telling me to take note because I'd never see that sort of thing again. He said, "Have a good look at this, girl, because you won't see the likes of this again". And as we watched he was counting the big horses pulling the dray. In his younger days he had been a stockman, bushman and shearer and it was second nature for him to count the animals he was dealing with.

One of my aunts seems to send me messages in dreams and one morning I woke feeling as if my Mother was saying, "What have you been doing? I've been trying to contact you for ages", in an exasperated voice. I really enjoy my adventures with Spirit.
