"Winner Take All Politics"
~Jacob S Hacker & Paul Pierson~ In the interview, Paul Pierce states that the Bush Tax Bill from May of 2001 (the one that gave $300 to $500 back to every working American one year) was a smoke screen for all kinds of benefits that would gradually and systematically go into effect (year after year) to benefit only the 1% (when no one was looking) with a very profound potential to decrease substantially the median income of this country. Among other things, the book talks about how it didn't start there. How this smoke screen has been going on since 1978; and these are the very gradual and systematic tax benefits and deregulation that continue to plunge this country and the rest of the world into financial jeopardy now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winner...tics_%28book%29 Feels like Shades of Atlantis. Love, Chiu

This sounds like a good book.
I couldn’t find it at my library – will have to buy it – but according to Wikipedia the authors said that people pay attention to the drama of politics and that we need to start to realize that it’s not about the drama but the slog – the everyday maintenance and creating a society as opposed to fighting against or for one idea or the other. I agree with that. I had a teacher once who said – “Drama belongs on the stage”. I think that’s true. As for the Atlanteans – were they arrogant? Is that why they ignored things and their society fell? – because scarily – 4 percent of all CEOs are deemed by psychologists to be psychopaths (and anyone close to that 4 percent isn’t that wonderful either!). And since corporations at the highest levels act to influence government –it seems to me that is where we’d find the biggest congregation of those reincarnated Atlanteans! I think the fact that it’s not the educated – so-called “intellectual elite” that have all the money – or the celebrities – is very interesting. Because, I mean, holy cow – if they are wealthy – then how wealthy are the very very wealthy? It’s really mindbogglingly inconceivable. Besides that – since money is just, literally made – banks just invent it out of thin air – this is all an illusion – all of it – anyway – all the problems with debt – everything. If someone would just write a check or press a button – we could all start again. Of course, I’m sure the 4 percent and their buddies wouldn’t want that. And there in lies the problem!
